You have questioned your own aesthetic choices and wondered if you needed to challenge it but you could see this as a valuable asset that comes from your own tacit knowledge rather that wondering if you need to make “ugly” paintings.
In terms of your work going on into semester 2, and beyond, one point to consider may be how you might re-introduce content / narrative, perhaps selecting a topic or location or story that is away from your usual or familiar field. This would build on the testing and experiments you have done so far, but could introduce another aspect to it.
Reflections of feedback (above)
Ideas:
Introduce content which is not obviously representational. Found material and object from walking. Mapping through found materials. This is only an initial response to this idea. This may also include photography as a means of gathering visual information. The results will reference place, mapping and have a sense of auto biography through my choices of materials.
I will respond to these objects and imagery using the intuitive responses as with the collaboration pieces made with others. Continuing with the knowledge and theories gained from the previous module and the interruptions to my usual methods and habits of working. Taking advantage of my tacit knowledge and know how gained in my painting practice to date.
Set timescales for collection of material to work with and responses, perhaps working towards Easter/upcoming crit/tutorials so that I can gather feedback and insight moving towards the end of 702.
