Julie Ellis Artist

Really useful session with Laura today. I am finding new ideas for ways to think about my work and how to write about it. Also this has highlighted ways that I could present my ideas to the viewer outside of my usual methods. It is giving me confidence to think about performance and allowing me space to overcome anxieties associated with letting go.

Kieran and Julie Collaboration of words:

Me: Sitting calmly in contrast

Kieran: There is still silent even if I can still hear the radio

Me: The snow-man’s neck creaks in the corner annoying and calming

Kieran: The glistening light from the dew drops on spider web

Me: Painted over

Me: In the pit of my stomach

Kieran: Wet droplets on the grass

 Me: Your legs don’t work

Kieran:

Me: Keep busy I can compartmentalize

Me: I can’t tidy up the head and the heart

Kieran: Yellow flower on the beach,

Hope I can catch your breath.

Me; I’m back in the present

Workshop included working initially alone, free writing of the moment, and thoughts for ten mins. Then highlighting parts which felt important /resonated something. Working in pairs to choreograph the words of both.

I identified my words to reflect a feeling of control being surrendered/chaos and order.

Then we each prepared a short piece writing notes to describe how a performance of this may look in terms of set/scene and instructions for a performer.
