Connections with your own practice will be implicit in many ways. The essay is not necessarily a place to talk about your work. More use full to use the time to discuss other works and engage with them. Use artists to ways of discussing elements which may be applicable to your work and the parallels will be evident without you spelling them out. That’s more realistic in terms of the word count.
