Julie Ellis Artist

Continuing with clay pieces today. This time with porcelain which feels very different to the air drying clay. It has a slightly elastic feel to it but breaks really easily. I like the fragility of the material and the light colour also. I have repeated some of the techniques I have used before and also some new. The petal like forms comes from pushing the clay between my fingers. This is instinctive and placed together I like the ephemeral and delicate forms that build up. I think this is a nod to nature aesthetically but also just intuitive process, like the mark making in my drawing which is often unintentional but grows from movement of gesture. I may keep them and see if there is a possibility of firing them. I expect that the kiln may finish them off but they are not precious, breakages probably fuel the learning process as failure does in my painting.
